Why use a slow-release hay net?

In the wild, horses spend on average twice as much time foraging for food as they do in a stable. Furthermore, their digestive system is adapted to the constant consumption of small pieces of forage, such as grass or hay. A slow-feeder, like a hay net, slows the rate of feeding and thus replicates a more natural feeding behavior. It has also been shown that the constant availability of food is less stressful for horses than portion feeding, which is still practiced in many stables.
