Double jointed Pelham bit

Pelhams were designed to be used with two reins, one attached to the top ring (snaffle) and one attached to the lower loose ring, which is used when needed for extra leverage. Can also be used with alliances for common action.

Information

The double-jointed Pelham with a copper part has a smoother action in the mouth than some other Pelhams because it distributes pressure evenly over the tongue and mouth bars. The copper warms and encourages the horse to salivate and accept the bit.
