Double-jointed Pelham bit

Pelham reins are designed for use with two reins: one attached to the top ring (bridle) and one attached to the lower loose ring, which is used when needed for extra leverage. They can also be used with curb chains for combined action.

Information

The double-jointed Pelham bit with a copper section has a gentler action in the mouth than some other Pelham bits because it distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars of the mouth. The copper warms the horse and encourages salivation and acceptance of the bit.
